The strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines since 2013

A category 5 storm, Goni Typhoon, with a speed of 215 kilometers per hour to hit the Southeast Asian nation this Sunday. It is considered to be the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines.

The government has started evacuations starting from coastal inhabited areas in provinces of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.

A challenge faced by the authorities is respecting the Covid-19 protocol. Social distancing comes as a priority in evacuation centers in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus especially that the Philippines holds second-highest number of Covid-19 infections and deaths in Southeast Asia.

All port operations were suspended as Typhoon Goni is approaching from the Pacific Ocean bringing heavy rains over the capital and other 14 nearby provinces this Saturday evening accompanied by threats of floods and landslides.
