United States: A Mysterious Metal "Monolith" in the Desert fuels Fantasies

Has it come straight from the famous movie “A Space Odyssey” by Stanley Kubrick? A mysterious “monolith” of metal has been discovered in a desert in Utah western United States, igniting the imaginations of UFO enthusiasts and fans around the world.

The glittering triangular boulder, which protrudes more than 3.5 meters from the reddish ground of southern Utah, was discovered last Wednesday by astonished local officials who were flying over the area to count bighorn sheep specimens.

After landing, these employees of the Utah Department of Public Safety were able to examine the “metal monolith“, finding “no clear indication of who might have placed it there.

The announcement of the discovery went viral.

It is forbidden to install structures or works of art without authorization on lands managed by the federal government, no matter what planet you come from,” the agency recalled Monday in a malicious statement.

News of the discovery quickly went viral on the internet, with many noting similarities to the bizarre alien monoliths in Stanley Kubrick’s film, “2001: A Space Odyssey.

The authorities refusing to reveal the location of the “monolith” so as not to attract the hordes of curious sightseers, a race started online to determine its location based on the surrounding geological formations.

Some have noted a resemblance to the avant-garde works of John McCracken, an American sculptor who resided in the neighboring state of New Mexico and died in 2011.
