During a video of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaking about the phone call he had with the King of Morocco, His Majesty king Mohammed VI, the video displayed the map of Morocco in the background with imaginary borders separating Morocco from its Moroccan Sahara.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Moroccan Jews and different Israelis reacted by a wave of anger over such an incident. In addition to that, Israeli journalists and writers condemned this act on Twitter.

This led Israeli officials to apologize and express their deep regret over the matter. They also declared that friendship ties between Morocco and Israel are very deep and tight.

They made it clear that their failure to show the real map of Morocco is due to the fact that they did not have one at that moment.

After US official recognition of the Moroccan Sahara and after David Fischer, US Ambassador to Morocco, had signed the full map of Morocco, different outlets have started adopting the real Moroccan map without the imaginary borders separating Morocco from its Moroccan Sahara.

Thus, such a mistake by Israeli prime minister would have cost a lot hadn’t it been mended that quickly. Especially right after Morocco and Israel have normalized their ties and signed important partnerships in Rabat last week.
