French Data Center Incident Causes Heavy Losses to Moroccan Institutions

New data confirmed that the fire, which broke out on Wednesday, March 17th, in the French data center of OVHcloud in Strasbourg, caused heavy losses to a group of Moroccan websites, leading to loss of data.

The aforementioned incident had major repercussions on Moroccan websites and institutions, foremost of which is the website “Medicament.ma”, which announced that the fire destroyed the OVHcloud Center, which specializes in hosting and clouding, as the website relies on the center and was therefore forced to choose a new server in a different data center.

Various countries of the world were also affected by the repercussions of the accident, as nearly 3.6 million foreign websites, including a number of Arab sites, paid the price for this digital disaster, which befell the French data center, and caused these sites to lose their contents, as well as disturbances in access to their websites.

In France, the official website (data.gouv.fr) and (City Scott) apps were disrupted, while Spain witnessed the disruption of the Willow Design service, a number of weather services, in addition to other services.

While many media outlets reported, the day after the accident, “hundreds of cities, sports clubs, media outlets, and even publishing houses announced a temporary suspension of their websites.”

The fire on the OVH building in Strasbourg, resulted in the destruction of the company’s SBG2 data center, consisting of five floors, with an area of ​​500 square meters, while SBG1 was severely damaged, and the fire spread to two other buildings, which led to multiply the losses.

OVHcloud data center is the largest cloud service provider in Europe, with facilities across the region, as well as in Asia, the Pacific, and the United States.

It is noteworthy that the company OVHcloud, which specializes in information servers, was founded in 1999, and in 2019 it achieved revenues of 600 million euros, and it has 2750 employees, and it competes with Amazon, and other major companies in this field.
