Morocco To Host A New Libya Meeting On Sovereign Positions
The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Libyan talks on the appointment of sovereign positions will resume today Friday in Rabat, to complement the negotiation sessions hosted by the Kingdom and marked by the participation of representatives of the two sides of conflict in Libya.
On Thursday, the Moroccan Foreign Ministry indicated that Chairman of the High Council of State in Libya (west), Khalid al-Mishri, and Speaker of the Libyan Parliament in Tobruk (east), Aguila Saleh are in Rabat to participate in the talks.
The positions that will be discussed during the talks include: Governor of the Central Bank, the Public Prosecutor and Heads of the Administrative Control Authority, the National Anti-Corruption Authority, the High Electoral Commission and the Supreme Court.
The announcement of these talks comes at a time when Germany is preparing to host the second conference on peace in Libya, which will be held on June 23rd under the auspices of the United Nations and with the participation of the transitional government that was formed at the beginning of the year.
This conference aims to support the transitional process in Libya, especially the preparations for the elections scheduled for December 24th, as well as the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from the country, as stipulated in the ceasefire agreement.
It is noted that since the overthrow of the regime of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya has plunged into chaos, exacerbated in recent years by the presence of two conflicting authorities east and west of the country.
The transitional government that was formed under the auspices of the United Nations is seeking to continue efforts aimed at getting the country out of the crisis by holding general elections.
