DGSN: 6 Extremists Arrested For Financing Terrorist Projects Through Fraud
According to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), members of the National Judicial Police Division, in coordination with the regional authority of the Judicial Police in Salé, were able, based on accurate information provided by the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), to arrest six extremists between the ages of 23 and 39, four of whom are former detainees, in cases of terrorism and extremism and one person in drug crimes, on suspicion of their involvement in fabricating fake traffic accidents with the aim of defrauding insurance companies and harnessing criminal proceeds to finance terrorist projects.
A communiqué by the DGSN stated that the six suspects were arrested in Salé, on Monday, after they were suspected of carrying out extremist projects, represented in fabricating fake traffic accidents using motorcycles and cars and declaring them to insurance companies, in order to obtain the compensation amounts that they classify under the category of “al-Istihlal wa al-Fai’,” and use them in financing serious terrorist projects.
The same source added that the searches carried out in the homes of the suspects resulted in the seizure of a motorcycle that was used in fictitious traffic accidents that were authorized to occur, medical certificates and several copies of them registered in the names of the detainees, copies of records of traffic accidents, digital data storage chips, information devices, and extremist books, in addition to nine medical narcotic tablets.
The report indicated that the suspects were subjected to a judicial investigation by the National Judicial Police Division under the supervision of the Public Prosecution in charge of terrorism and extremism issues, in order to identify all authorized fake traffic accidents and monitor the size and value of the sums of money obtained through this fraudulent method.
According to the communiqué, this issue falls within the context of continuing the proactive operations undertaken by national security departments with the aim of neutralizing the dangers of terrorist threats, and warding off all terrorist projects that target the security and stability of the Kingdom.
