Tangier: PPG opens Automotive Sealants Production in Morocco

American company PPG has opened lately in Tangier, northern Morocco, its first automotive sealants production facility in Africa. The new facility confirms Morocco’s attractiveness to foreign investors and global automotive players.

The facility will supply materials for Dacia a Tangier automobiles built in Renault Group’s Tanger-Meloussa and Casablanca (Somaca) facilities.

Decidedly, the American PPG Industries will open its new factory in Tangier on Thursday, August 12, 2021, to manufacture automotive sealants for local car production.

Thus, according to a press statement from the US industrial firm, this operation, which is PPG’s first automotive coating manufacturing facility in Africa, will first supply materials for Renault Group’s Dacia brand vehicles built in Tangier and Casablanca.

‘‘The establishment of this facility is a significant step forward in the local supply of original equipment manufacturers in Morocco,’’ said Roald Johannsen, Vice-President of PPG’s automotive coatings division for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

‘’Morocco is already one of Africa’s largest and fastest-growing automobile manufacturers. ‘Vehicle production is anticipated to expand considerably by 2030, with two new manufacturing facilities planned,’’ he said.

However, by the same source, the PPG factory in Tangier will create sealants that will allow for greater flexibility in car design and production.

In addition, the business is looking into producing more adhesive, sealant, and coating technologies locally to serve automobile manufacturers growing their operations in Morocco.

Johannsen stated, “This investment reflects our commitment to serving our customers and developing in emerging regions.”

According to a press release from PPG, a Pittsburgh-based firm, automobile manufacturing in Morocco has risen from 100,000 vehicles in 2000 to over 400,000 in 2019, with 700,000 projected by 2023.
