First Omicron Case reported in Morocco

According to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the first instance of infection with the novel Omicron strain of the coronavirus has been reported in a Moroccan woman in Casablanca.

According to the ministry, the first case of contamination by the novel strain Omicron was discovered in a Moroccan citizen whose health status is stable and does not raise alarm as part of the country’s vigilance and epidemiological monitoring, as well as its communication policy.

According to the ministry, the patient was placed under medical monitoring in a hospital in Casablanca, in compliance with the current health procedures.

The agency stated that necessary precautions are being taken in accordance with national and international health security norms, and that the identification of suspected ill person contacts is underway.

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection recommends all residents to follow sanitary preventative measures, such as wearing protective masks and washing and sanitizing hands often, in addition to physical separation. Citizens are also encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as possible, according to the ministry.

The ministry will continue to keep the national public informed about the epidemiological situation, according to the statement.
