Mr. Mezzour chairs the administrative board of the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property

Ryad Mezzour , Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, presided over the 32nd meeting of the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property’s Administrative Council on Friday in Casablanca.

According to a statement from the office, the meeting’s agenda included presenting the year’s results and accomplishments, as well as examining the work program and the budget for 2022.

According to the communiqué, the Minister discussed progress in the field of industrial and commercial property, as well as the critical role played by the office in keeping up with economic actors in order to achieve an effective and sustainable use of the industrial and commercial property system, which boosts added value creation and contributes to increased competitiveness and growth.

According to the same source, industrial and commercial property activity in Morocco grew in the first 10 months of 2021, compared to 2020 and 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic.

The Moroccan office registered 14,451 new trademark applications in the first ten months of 2021, according to the statement, with a noteworthy increase in applications for registration of Moroccan provenance (plus 24 percent).

In turn, compared to the same period last year, when the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property received 2,300 applications, applications for registration of industrial designs and designs increased by 17 percent, to 3,764 applications in 2021, and patent applications increased by 10%.

In terms of data connected to business creation, the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property granted 113,180 negative certificates between October 2018 and October 2021, a 28 percent rise. During the same time period, 88,110 businesses were founded.

On the other hand, the Office’s Administrative Council examined and approved the Office’s work program for the year 2022, which included a review of projects that had been completed to improve the use of industrial and commercial property mechanisms at the national level.
