Spain is committed to ensuring Morocco’s ‘Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity’

In the context of “the new stage” between the two countries, the Spanish government committed on Friday to protect Morocco’s “sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“Today marks the start of a new era in our ties with Morocco, based on mutual respect, the implementation of agreements, the avoidance of unilateral acts, transparency, and constant communication.” This new stage will be developed (…) according to a well-defined and ambitious plan.

This new and conciliatory Spanish position has been stated in a letter addressed by Spanish PM to his majesty King Mohammed 6,  all of this is to safeguard the two countries’ stability, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity, as the Spanish government’s Presidency stated.

In this context, the Spanish government reiterated its “determination” to work with Morocco to address “common challenges,” such as managing migration flows in the Mediterranean and Atlantic “by always acting in a spirit of full cooperation, and to restore full normalcy in the movement of people and goods for the benefit of our peoples.”

The Spanish government “welcomes” the president’s travel to Morocco “to define the roadmap for this new stage,” as well as the invitation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation to visit Rabat before the end of the month, according to the statement.
