Relations between Morocco and Israel: The PJD corrected by the Royal Cabinet

Morocco has recently been embroiled in a controversy over its relations with Israel, particularly in light of recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories. The Justice and Development Party (PJD) issued a statement that the Royal Palace deemed to contain irresponsible remarks and dangerous approximations by the party’s General Secretariat.

The Royal Council reacted, Monday, to the Justice and Development Party (PJD) statement of March 4, which addressed in one of its paragraphs the relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the State of Israel, in connection with the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.  “The general secretariat of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) recently published a release containing irresponsible drifts and serious approximations concerning the relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the State of Israel, linking them to the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories,” the Royal Cabinet said in a statement relayed by MAP.

In response, the Royal Cabinet issued a statement stressing that Morocco’s position towards the Palestinian issue is irreversible and constitutes one of the priorities of the foreign policy of His Majesty the King. This position is a constant principle of Morocco, which cannot be subjected to political bidding and narrow electoral campaigns

The Royal Cabinet also recalled that the Kingdom’s foreign policy is the prerogative of His Majesty the King, in accordance with the Constitution, and that the Kingdom’s international relations cannot be blackmailed by anyone for any reason whatsoever. Moreover, the instrumentalisation of the Kingdom’s foreign policy for an internal partisan agenda constitutes a dangerous and unacceptable precedent.

Regarding the relations between Morocco and Israel, the Royal Cabinet stressed that their resumption was carried out in circumstances and in a context that everyone knows, framed by statements and official declarations. The nation’s active forces, political parties and certain prominent personalities, as well as certain associations working on the Palestinian question, were informed of this decision, for which they expressed their support and commitment.

Finally, the Royal Cabinet recalled that Morocco’s position on the Palestinian question is constant and that it will never be subject to political bidding. Morocco’s relations with Israel are framed by statements and official declarations and are not negotiable. Morocco will continue to work for peace and stability in the region, always looking after the supreme interests of the homeland and respecting national values.
