MEP Applauds Israel’s ‘Important’ and ‘Historic’ Recognition of Moroccan Sovereignty over the Sahara

Israel’s “important and historic” decision to acknowledge Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara was praised by MEP Tomá Zdechovsk on Monday.

Israel’s decision to acknowledge Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara is a significant and historic one after the United States and the other EU nations, the European People’s Party (EPP) group MEP responded in a tweet.

He claimed that this choice “will help accelerate the resolution of this conflict for the establishment of a peaceful region.”

It was revealed on Monday by the Royal Office that His Majesty King Mohammed VI had received a letter from Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, in which he informed the Sovereign’s Very High of his country’s decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara region.

Regarding this, the Israeli Prime Minister said that his nation’s viewpoint “will be reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli government.” Additionally, he stressed that the decision “would be transmitted to the United Nations, to regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, and to all nations with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations.

Israel is positively contemplating “the opening of a consulate in the city of Dakhla” as part of carrying out this State decision, the Israeli Prime Minister wrote in a letter to the Sovereign.
