Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan presided over the inauguration session for new members of the Kingdom of Morocco Academy on Wednesday. This marked the opening of the institution's first session in its prestigious new configuration.

The session highlighted a pivotal message from His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the members of the Kingdom of Morocco Academy, conveyed by the Academy’s permanent secretary, Abdeljalil Lahjomri. In this significant address, the Sovereign emphasized the Academy’s role as a beacon of cross-continental thought and research.

Furthermore, it serves as a dynamic platform for refining intellectual, academic, and scientific skills across diverse realms within the humanities and social sciences.

“The Academy has become a beacon of cross-continental thought and research as well as a platform for honing intellectual, academic and scientific skills in all areas of the humanities and social sciences. It has contributed to developing and enriching research while highlighting the historical and cultural depth that the Kingdom of Morocco has acquired over the centuries,” emphasized His Majesty the King.

To empower the Academy in fulfilling its esteemed mission, His Majesty the King expressed, ‘Since 2015, I have sought to reactivate and restructure it.’ This initiative aimed to align the Academy with the Kingdom’s constitutional goals, preserving our diverse national identity, encompassing Arab-Islamic, Berber, Sahrawi-Hassani, African, Andalusian, Hebrew, and Mediterranean components,” stated the Sovereign.

Mohamed Sghir Janjar, representing resident members, emphasized His Majesty’s commitment to promoting the prestigious institution. Addressing the session’s theme, “The family and the crisis of values,” Janjar highlighted that this challenge extends beyond developed societies, impacting regions undergoing profound changes, linked to demographic shifts, urbanization, and education.

Souleymane Bachir Diagne, speaking for associate members, underscored the theme’s significance, stating, “This subject lies at the heart of the many questions posed by the times we live in, in all countries, under all latitudes.” The reflections will focus on the family’s responsibility amid the impact of the economic and social crisis due to neoliberal globalization.

Culminating the session, HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan posed for a memorable photo with Academy members, fostering a sense of camaraderie and collaboration in pursuit of intellectual and civilizational goals. His arrival at the Academy was met with warm greetings from Abdeljalil Lahjomri and dignitaries, emphasizing the Academy’s importance on both national and global scales.
