4% Drop in Landings of Coastal and Artisanal Fishing

According to the National Office of Fisheries (NOF), the landings of coastal and artisanal fishery products fell by 4% to 905,171 tons (T) for the first nine months of 2020.

The NOF indicated in its circular on statistics of coastal and artisanal fishing in Morocco that the market value of coastal and artisanal fishing products decreased during this period by 9% to nearly 5.26 billion dirhams (BMAD).

According to the same source, catches of pelagic and crustacea fish were down 26 percent to 3,279 tons, and 7 percent to settle at 779 thousand and 410 tons, landings of algae, shellfish, white fish and cephalopods, for their part, registered respective increases of 69%, 34%, 17% and 11%.

In contrast, the office revealed that a total of 888,553 tons of coastal and traditional fishing products were discharged at the entries of Mediterranean ports, down 4% compared to end-September 2019. In turn, the volume of landings at the ports on the Atlantic Ocean fell by 13% to settle at 16,618 tons.
