Green hydrogen: Morocco to focus on green hydrogen in the coming years

For the next few years, Morocco will concentrate on green hydrogen. According to the Ministry of Energy, Mines and the Environment, the green hydrogen development plan seeks to fulfill local demand while also optimizing the use of national capacity, notably through exports.

This plan was implemented, according to the department, in response to the study’s recommendations, which verified Morocco’s readiness to grow this industry. Morocco, according to the government, “can capture up to 4% of worldwide demand for green chemicals.”

Three strategic axes have been identified to implement the national strategy: technologies, which includes technological developments and cost savings, investments, and procurement, which includes the creation of an industrial cluster and the development of a master plan for the corresponding infrastructures

According to the ministry, the third axis, markets and demand, relates to the fulfillment of demand opportunities, which leads to the creation of new markets. Recalling that these strategic axes will be converted into an action plan by 2050, which will encompass cost reduction throughout the value chain of the green hydrogen industry and its derivatives and will be executed gradually.
