This event is organized every year and comes in the context of Morocco’s strong commitment and responsibility towards its African depth. A commitment justified by historical, geographical and cultural ties, mainly embodied in the southern regions of the Kingdom, which constitute the link between Morocco and Africa, the southern regions of Morocco have made great progress in record time thanks to the implementation of special and appropriate development strategies compatible with desert regions. On top of these achievements is the New Development Model Program for Southern provinces.

Thanks to African and international multilateral cooperation, deserts and arid regions all over the world, in Africa in particular, with its rich natural marine coasts and vast beaches, have become an open workshop for construction of major infrastructures and mega trans-desert projects such as:

– DESERTEC project (clean renewable energy exportation).

– Great Green Wall of the Sahara and Sahel initiative (led by The African union) for greening the desert and combating desertification.

– TransAfrica Pipeline (a project to make 8,000 km long freshwater pipeline which will provide clean, potable drinking water to 28-30 million people in 11 countries of the African Sahel).

– The “Powerafrica” initiative.

– The Desert to Power initiative (D2P, to provide electricity to about 250 million people).

The 3rd edition will be very special, in terms of the distinguished participation of prominent scientific and professional figures from several leading countries in scientific research on the desert issues, as well as the scientific committee members who belong to prestigious institutes and universities, the topic of the meeting is highly important and responds to urgent issues.
