German Federal Foreign Office Releases a Statement Regarding Morocco’s Normalization of Ties with Israel

"We very much welcome the announcement of the planned normalization of ties between Morocco and Israel"

On the occasion of the announcement of the normalization of ties between Morocco and Israel, a spokeswoman for the German Federal Foreign Office declared today, December 11, the following:

“We very much welcome the announcement of the planned normalization of ties between Morocco and Israel, with the US as an intermediary. Being the fourth country after the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan to follow this path, within just a few months, is an important and hopeful step towards more peace and stability in the region.

The rapprochement between Israel and its Arab neighbors over the past few months may also give rise to a new dynamic for conflict resolution between Israel and Palestine. Now we must build on the momentum.

The German government calls for direct negotiations between the two sides and seeks to achieve this at a bilateral level with both Israel and Palestine, as well as with our European and Arab partners.

The German government’s position on the conflict over Western Sahara has not changed. We are dedicated to achieving a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution under the mediation of the United Nations. ”
