Lebanon Foreign Ministry support Morocco’s territorial integrity

Nasser Bourita, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, communicated with Zina Aker, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Emigrants in the caretaker government Zina Aker via Video conference on Wednesday. Lebanon has confirmed its support to Morocco’s territorial integrity and rejects separatist entities through the call.

A communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation of Africa and Moroccan Expatriates, revealed that Bourita paid tribute at the outset to the ties, relations of cooperation and solidarity between the two fraternal countries, highlighting in this context that the royal initiatives ordered by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on various occasions underlined the importance he attaches to strengthening the security and stability of Lebanon and helping it to overcome the difficulties and challenges it faces, both economically and those associated with the unstable environment.

Accordingly, in the communiqué, Bourita stressed that the Kingdom of Morocco, which has consistently advocated respect for the sovereignty and territorial and national unity of Lebanon, very much hopes that the Lebanese, with their various components, will agree to uphold Lebanon’s interest and move forward in the formation of a Government of national unity capable of creating a new dynamic in the Lebanese landscape and enjoying the confidence of the Lebanese people and the support of the international community.

With regard to bilateral cooperation, it expressed the willingness of the Kingdom of Morocco to modernize the legal framework and to activate bilateral cooperation mechanisms in the common interest of both countries and peoples.

In this context, the communiqué highlighted that the ministers had agreed to establish a joint consular committee to consider facilitating access to visas for citizens of the two countries and to explore ways of establishing and operating Lebanese competencies in Morocco.

At the level of academic training, the same source indicated that it had been agreed to raise Lebanon’s share of scholarships from 5 to 15.

The communiqué added that Zina Aker, for her part, again expressed Lebanon’s great appreciation to King Mohammed VI for his solidarity initiatives with Lebanon, namely, medical and food assistance and the establishment of a military hospital in the surgical field following the explosion of the port of Beirut on 4 August 2020, as well as the royal donation to the Lebanese army and people on 16 April 2021, to enable it to face the economic challenges and the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
