Nikola Selakovic: Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, A Serious And Reliable Solution

The Serbian Minister stressed the diplomatic and political efforts that the Kingdom of Morocco has been making to reach a political, realistic, practical and lasting solution to the Sahara issue, in a spirit of consensus, realism, and full compliance with Security Council resolutions.

On May 5th and 6th, and within the framework of celebrating the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Serbia, the Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Selakovic, visited Morocco, an opportunity to deepen political dialogue and exchange views on many regional issues.

On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Serbian counterpart praised the fruitful dynamic that characterizes the bilateral relations between the two countries at all levels: political, economic, cultural and academic, as well as the excellent coordination between Morocco and Serbia within international organizations.

In the same context, Selakovic noted the pioneering position that Morocco has come to occupy under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as a pole of stability and prosperity in the region as a whole.

The Moroccan and Serbian officials also praised the exemplary measure for the two countries in combating the Covid-19 pandemic, and the success of the vaccination campaign, noting in the same context the positive development of the volume of trade exchange between Morocco and Serbia, despite the current context due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The two officials also agreed to boost it further in light of the tremendous capabilities of both countries.

The two ministers announced that the third session of the Mixed Commission for Trade, Economic and Scientific Cooperation will be held in Belgrade on June 23rd and 24th, when conditions allow.

On a different note, the Serbian Minister stressed the diplomatic and political efforts that the Kingdom has been making to reach a political, realistic, practical and lasting solution to the Sahara issue, in a spirit of consensus, realism, and full compliance with Security Council resolutions.

In this regard, the Republic of Serbia considers the Moroccan initiative for autonomy, under the sovereignty of Morocco, a serious and reliable solution.

Within the legal framewwork bilateral cooperation, a memorandum of understanding was signed on political consultations between the Moroccan and Serbian Ministries of Foreign Affairs, in addition to the cooperation program in the fields of culture, higher education, scientific research, information and communication (2021-2024), as well as an agreement concerning cooperation in the field of defense, which will contribute to the exchange of knowledge and experiences between the two countries.
