Morocco – Palestine: Sahara and Palestine, Same Priority

His Majesty, King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, addressed a message to His brother, His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, President of the State of Palestine.

His Majesty, King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, addressed a message to His brother, His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, President of the State of Palestine, in which the Sovereign expressed His satisfaction with the content of the Important telephone call that He had with His Excellency on Thursday, December 10, marked by a fruitful dialogue and reciprocal interaction on the constant position of the Kingdom of Morocco on the subject of the Palestinian question, and Its permanent and continuous commitment to defend the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

His Majesty the King reiterated the Kingdom of Morocco’s constant position in favor of the Palestinian question, based on the two-state solution, as internationally agreed upon, as well as the commitment to open negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli parties as the only way to reach a final, lasting and comprehensive settlement to this conflict.

In His capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, emanating from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, His Majesty the King reaffirmed that He will spare no effort for the preservation of the historical and ancestral identity of the holy city as a land of cohabitation between monotheistic religions.

His Majesty also affirmed that He will continue to defend the special status of the city of Al Quds Acharif and the respect for the freedom of religious rites for the followers of the three monotheistic religions, as well as the Islamic identity of the holy city and of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

His Majesty the King also affirmed that Morocco always places the Palestinian cause at the same level as the question of the Moroccan Sahara and that the action of Morocco to consecrate its Moroccanness will never take place, neither today nor in the future. Concerning the struggle of the Palestinian people to recover their legitimate rights. His Majesty noted in this context that Morocco will continue its constructive engagement in favor of the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East region.

Based on this observation, and in harmony with what was agreed on between the two Leaders, His Majesty the King informed His Excellency President Abbas that He will soon summon the meeting of the 21st Session of the Al-Quds Committee, in Morocco, in order to examine the means of consolidating the preservation of the special status of the city of Al-Quds Acharif, and to contribute to the preservation of its historical and cultural sites, its spiritual symbolism and its religious identity.

In the same context, the structures of Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency will soon be updated in order to breathe new life into it and allow it to continue, under the personal supervision of His Majesty, the realization of plans and concrete programs in the fields of health, education and housing, as well as everything related to the social component for the benefit of the Palestinian inhabitants of Al-Quds.
