Russia Calls for a political solution in Moroccan Sahara

Sergey Lavrov called attention to the need to solve the problem of the Sahara “exclusively through political and diplomatic methods on the basis of international law that is generally recognized.”

Russia calls for a Political Solution in Moroccan Sahara

Nasser Bourita, minister of foreign affairs, African cooperation and Moroccans residing abroad, held today, Wednesday, a phone call with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov who called for finding a political solution to Moroccan Sahara.

Russia called on all parties involved in the Sahara dispute to stop hostilities and calm the tension that has arisen recently in Guerguerat.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry  statement on Wednesday, Sergey Lavrov called attention to the need to solve the problem of the Sahara “exclusively through political and diplomatic methods on the basis of international law.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry added that Bourita and Lavrov discussed Russian-Moroccan relations’ issues, considering the 8th meeting of the Russian-Moroccan governmental committee for economic, scientific, and technical cooperation; which takes place in Moscow in early December.

Guerguerat Crossing Blockade

Morocco has witnessed rising conflict in Guerguerat crossing which links Morocco to Mauritania. Separatist “Polisario” have blocked the natural flow of traffic and civilian in the crossing.

However, The blockade has caused huge losses for southern countries which rely on this crossing for the transport of merchandise. Mauritanian activists have called the government to intervene in solving this blockade. Moreover, activists have called Mauritania to withdraw its recognition of separatist “Polisario”.

On the other hand, Mauritania has witnessed acute rise in prices of essential products through to “Polisario’s” blockade.

Thus, Morocco Royal Armed Forces have intervened to guarantee the safe flow of goods and civilians through Guerguerat crossing. Doing so without causing any casualties whatsoever,

Furthermore, the Royal Armed Forces have liberated Guerguerat crossing without causing any casualties. An action of courage and nationalism has united Moroccans all over the world so as to stand with the Moroccanity of the Sahara.
