Africa’s longest tunnel 2,179 meters, in the city of Casablanca

Al mowahidin tunnel opened

On Saturday, the Al mowahidin tunnel was opened in the presence of a group of Casablanca officials, led by Said Ahmidoch the governor of  Casablanca -settat region and Abdelaziz El oumari the mayor of the city and other personalities.

The Al mowahidin Tunnel, which is considered one of the longest tunnels in Africa, extends at a length of 2,179 meters, including 1,817 meters underground.

The total cost of the Al mowahidin Tunnel project amounted to 820 million dirhams, to which the Ministry of Interior represented by the General Directorate of Local Authorities contributed 270 million dirhams, the Casablanca Municipality: 60 million dirhams, Wesal Capital Asset: 250 million dirhams, and Al-Manar Development Company: 240 million dirhams.

To equip this tunnel, they relied on the latest equipment that conforms to international standards, including 88 fixed and mobile cameras to ensure the safety of users, 36 bi-directional fans, 600 LED spotlights, 8 emergency exits, a heat detection system, 84 firefighting units, and pollution detectors. Also, a SOS phone system and an electronic sound and signal system with variable messages were installed.
