André Azoulay, senior adviser to HM King Mohammed VI, is a Jewish Moroccan who had also served as the late King Hassan II senior adviser.

Born in Essaouira in 1941, Azoulay is a proud Berber-Jewish Moroccan. His hometown was once home to a considerable Jewish community and hosts the historic Jewish Bayt Al-Dakira (House of Memory) that King Mohammed VI visited in January of this year.

When the King visited the project, which includes a small synagogue, a museum, and a research center, Azoulay greeted the King with both the Torah and the Quran. Azoulay said that “King Mohammed’s presence was a symbol of our secular and millenary Morocco that has been able to protect the very great diversity, which is the central wealth of our country.

Azoulay served as the Vice President of Paribas Bank in Paris between 1968 and 1990. Today, he presides over the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue Between Cultures based in Alexandria, Egypt. He is also the President of the Executive Committee of the Foundation for the Three Cultures and the Three Religions, based in Seville, Spain.

Audrey Azoulay, André Azoulay’s daughter, has been serving as the UNESCO Director-General since 2017. She has been Endorsed by Morocco for a 2nd term at the opening session of the 210th UNESCO Executive Board last Wednesday, December 2nd.

The list, put together by The Algemeiner, included people from all over the world with different backgrounds and was not exclusive to people of the Jewish faith.

It included both the current President Donald J. Trump and President-elect Joe R. Biden and people of different professional backgrounds. The actor behind the famous “Borat” character Sacha Baren Cohen has also been a list member.

Piers Morgan, Jesse Eisenberg, Josh Gad, King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed Sultan Al Nahyan have also made a sizeable appearance on the list.
