According to statements by members of the scientific and technical committee in charge of developing the national strategy for vaccination against “SARS-Cov-2”, broadcasted today on national radio, that the committee gave permission to use the Russian “Sputnik” vaccine and the American “Johnson & Johnson” vaccine, after conducting a thorough study on both of them.

The committee’s recommendation will become official if the Directorate of Medicines and Pharmacy of the Ministry of Health grants a license to use these vaccines; a decision which would help provide an important stockpile for Morocco in order to continue the national campaign in good conditions.

However, Azzeddine Ibrahimi, member of the Scientific Committee, told national radio that the American vaccine is currently subject to monopoly by the United States, but there is now a possibility to provide important doses of the Russian vaccine, pending the end of the American vaccine’s domination.

Health authorities have approved two anti Covid-19 vaccines so far; namely British AstraZeneca and Chinese Sinopharm, with 8 million and 500 thousand doses.

Minister of Health, Pr. Khalid Ait Taleb, previously announced Morocco’s intention to purchase 65 million doses of these two vaccines to start the national vaccination campaign, which was launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on January 28th.
