The NGO TIBU in Laâyoune is officially inaugurated on Saturday 9 January by US Embassy in partnership with the Ministry of National Education for the benefit of 200 young Moroccan children and refugees aged between 12 and 16, in the presence of the Wali of the Laâyoune-region Sakia El Hamra and David Schenker, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs.

The launch of this new program in the presence of David Schenker, confirms the deep commitment of the historic partnership between TIBU Morocco and the Embassy of the United States in Morocco for the development and empowerment of Moroccan youth.

Great to welcome David Schenker, the Assistant Secretary of Near Eastern Affairs, at the opening of a new basketball center managed by TIBU in Laâyoune. TIBU uses the quintessential American sport – basketball – to reach thousands of Moroccan youth across the country, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with disabilities. We are now delighted to help facilitate TIBU’s expansion to the southern provinces.

“I am very pleased to join you today to take part in the launch of the new TIBU by US Embassy in partnership with the Ministry of National Education. The US State Department is proud to collaborate with TIBU Morocco, which is led by a young Moroccan leader and one of our US government exchange programs, Amine Zariat. The U.S. mission in Morocco has worked closely with TIBU over the past 10 years and we are pleased to facilitate the expansion of TIBU programs in the Southern provinces,” says David Schenker, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs.Orient.

This new centre, the first in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region and the 22nd at the national level, is aimed for motor development, cognitive and socio-emotional skills, promoting sustainable transformation through sport.

This program is in line with the strategic vision of the 2015-2030 reform of the Ministry of Education, which objective is to reshape a modern and qualitative model of education.
