First Moroccan under the age of 30, Nidal Benali, appointed to represent the UN Major Group for Children and Youth (UN MGCY) by the United Nations as one of the Global Focal Point for Peace and Security.

First Moroccan under the age of 30, Nidal Benali, appointed to represent the UN Major Group for Children and Youth (UN MGCY) by the United Nations as one of the Global Focal Point for Peace and Security.

Benali will work on issues related to peace and security concerning youth specifically.

On his part, Nidal Benali has expressed his gratitude for the given opportunity to represent Morocco and promised to work to increase youth engagement with this prestigious appointment and diplomatic honor.

The UNMGCY is the formal mechanism for young people to meaningfully engage in the United Nations. They work on a range of issues at the global, regional, national and subnational levels across the pillars of the UN-human rights, sustainable development, and peace and security and organs of the UN-general assembly (GA), economic and social council (ECOSOC), security council, and secretariat. Their areas of work include the following: Policy and Advocacy, Capacity Building, Knowledge, and Action.

The group works on different issues such as Resilience and Humanitarian Action, Human Rights, Peace and Security, Youth Policy and Development, Sustainable Development, and Governance.
