An eagerly awaited final between two North African powerhouses will now take place between the Moroccan club and Al Ahly of Egypt.

Up until the second half of the game on Saturday, neither team produced many clear-cut opportunities. Themba Zwane’s goal for Mamelodi Sundowns in the 50th minute gave them the early advantage. However, Wydad didn’t take long to answer; Ayoub El Amloud equalized in just 12 minutes.

In the 79th minute, Mamelodi Sundowns recovered the lead thanks to a goal from Peter Shalulile, giving them new hope of advancing to the championship game. Mothobi Mvala scored once again for Wydad Casablanca in the 83rd minute, proving their tenacity and will.

Wydad Casablanca qualified for the forthcoming 2023 CAF Champions League final thanks to the away goals rule after the game ended in a dramatic 2-2 tie. Joining them will be Al Ahly, who achieved qualification yesterday by beating ES Tunis.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe attended the draw on Friday at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Sale, which is close to the Moroccan capital Rabat.

The draw was handled by former Moroccan player Noureddine Naybet and Director of FIFA Tournaments Jaime Yarza.

The club world cup competition will begin on February 1 with Al Ahly of Egypt taking against Auckland City of Australia. In the second round, the winner will take against the Seattle Sounders, an American team.

After winning the CONCACAF Champions League, Seattle Sounders created history by becoming the first US team to ever qualify for the tournament.

The winner of the Wydad-Al Hilal game will play Brazil’s CR Flamengo in the semifinals.

Real Madrid will meet the winner of the other second-round game in the semifinals. The competition’s most successful team in history is the Madrid team.

After hosting it in 2013 and 2014, Morocco is hosting the event for a third time. During the World Cup on December 16, Morocco’s hosting was announced.

Every year, the greatest club teams from around the world compete in the Club World Cup, which brings together the champions of each continental confederation’s league championship.

Since Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League, English team Chelsea, which won the previous title, will not be competing this year.
