https://twitter.com/MarocDiplomatie/status/1626193099465555970?s=20

Speaking during the examination of the Report of the Ministerial Committee for the Follow-up of the Implementation of Agenda 2063, Mr Bourita stressed that Agenda 2063, as an action plan of the African Union, constitutes an appropriate roadmap for the success of economic integration and sustainable development aspired by our continent.

In this context, “the lessons learned from the first decade of Agenda 2063, which was a decade of convergence, can only serve to fuel the ambition that drives us for the successful implementation of the second ten-year plan, which is intended to be a decade of acceleration,” the Minister noted.

However, Mr Bourita noted, the implementation of the aspirations and objectives of the Agenda depends first of all on the commitment of each Member State to invest in its implementation at national level.

In this perspective, the Kingdom of Morocco is committed, since its return to its African institutional family in 2017, to the implementation of the aspirations of Agenda 2063, the minister said.

Mr. Bourita stressed that sustainable development, in its three economic, social and environmental dimensions, has been, since the beginning of the century, the central objective of the reforms undertaken by the Kingdom of Morocco and supported by the dedication of more than a third of its national wealth to investment in the productive sectors, economic infrastructure, human development, new technologies, renewable energy and urban development.

In addition, and in order to adapt these efforts to the economic changes and external crises of recent years, Morocco has initiated a range of actions, namely, the establishment of a New Development Model whose vision and objectives set for 2035 converge perfectly with the aspirations and objectives of the Agenda 2063, the launch of a project to generalise social protection by 2025 and the development of an economic recovery plan which constitutes a framework for strengthening partnerships between the State and the private sector, encouraging the involvement of the latter in the financing and implementation of Agenda 2063.

The Minister reiterated the Kingdom’s determination to work with African countries to achieve the objectives “of our continental agenda, aiming at a dynamic, strong, democratic and sustainable Africa.

The composition of the new bureau was announced by the Kingdom’s ambassador to Ethiopia, and Permanent Representative of Morocco to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Mohamed Arrouchi, who presided over the opening session of the Bureau of the Experts Preparatory Committee for the 53rd session of the UNECA and the 2021 session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

The new bureau is made up of Equatorial Guinea (Chair), Madagascar (First Vice President), Zambia (Second Vice President), Sierra Leone (Third Vice President) and Morocco (Rapporteur).

The work of the 53rd session of the UNECA and the 2021 session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development was launched earlier today, Wednesday, under the slogan “Africa’s sustainable industrialization and diversification in the digital era in the context of Covid-19”, and will continue by video conference until next Tuesday.

This year’s theme includes “African countries’ need to achieve rapid economic growth thanks to industrialization and diversification while respecting the environment while benefiting from digitalization”.

The intensification of digitization in Africa will stimulate transformation, which will help Africa to achieve sustainable industrialization and diversification in light of a global digital economy that will soon exceed 11.5 billion dollars, ”according to the UNECA.
