Hammouchi Meets Austrian Intelligence Head in Vienna Talks

The meeting occurred concurrently with Hammouchi, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance’s participation in the 91st session of the International Criminal Police Organization, Interpol, held in Vienna from November 28 to December 1.

During the meeting between Hammouchi and his Austrian counterpart, the primary focus was on enhancing cooperation across all security domains between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Austria. Discussions also revolved around the development of collaborative mechanisms to address diverse security challenges and threats.

In attendance were executives and officials from the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) and the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), along with representatives from the State Protection and Intelligence Directorate of the Republic of Austria.

This diplomatic visit aligns with Morocco’s dedication to fortifying international security cooperation. It underscores the Kingdom’s readiness to exchange its experience and expertise in counterterrorism and combating organized crime with the security services of friendly and brotherly nations, as well as with all international partners.

Moroccan Sahara: Austria Considers Autonomy Plan as Serious and Credible Basis for Solution

Rabat – Austria considers the autonomy plan, presented by Morocco in 2007, as a basis for a solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, agreed upon by all the parties, according to the joint declaration adopted at the end of the meeting, Tuesday in Rabat, between the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, and the Federal Chancellor of Austria, Karl Nehammer.

Morocco’s efforts have been recognized as serious and credible in this context by Austria.

In a joint declaration, the two countries affirmed their support for Staffan de Mistura, the UN Secretary-Personal General’s Envoy for the Sahara, and his efforts to continue the political process aimed at reaching “a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution,” in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aims and principles set out in the UN Charter.

In this context, Morocco applauded Austria’s determination to continue providing vital assistance to MINURSO.

The Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer conducted an official visit to Morocco on February 27 and 28, at the request of the country’s head of state, Aziz Akhannouch.

When Mohamed Ben Abdelmalek delivered his credentials to HM the Emperor Joseph II on February 28, 1783, the two nations established diplomatic ties. This visit is a part of the celebration of the 240th anniversary of that event, which will take place on February 28, 2023.

Austrian Chancellor and Interior Minister expected in Morocco on Monday

Karl Nehammer, Austrian Chancellor, and his Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner are expected to visit Morocco on Monday 27 February. During their meetings with Moroccan officials, they plan to discuss issues related to immigration.

According to the same sources, the two Austrian officials are expected to hold talks with Moroccan officials, including Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit.

Another Austrian media reported that Chancellor Karl Nehammer will be accompanied during this visit by a delegation of high-level businessmen.

The Austrian press adds that two themes would be on the agenda of these talks, namely immigration and the readmission of illegal migrants.
