Cherif Mahamat Zene, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, and Chadians Abroad, underlined his country’s view on the priority of the role of the United Nations in resolving the regional issue over the Moroccan Sahara on Friday in Rabat.

Following discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans abroad, Nasser Bourita, the Chadian minister, said during a press conference that his country has asked the UN Secretary-Personal General’s Envoy for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, to “revitalize the talks process under Security Council Resolution 2602.”

Bourita, for his side, praised the Republic of Chad’s positive attitude on the Moroccan Sahara issue, recalling that this African country had withdrawn its recognition of the so-called “sadr” in 2006.

He also stated Chad’s support for the African Union’s (AU) positive attitude to this fictitious regional crisis.

The minister emphasized that his discussions with his Chadian counterpart were also an occasion to coordinate the two nations’ positions and perspectives on a variety of topics concerning West Africa, the Sahel area, and the CEN-SAD.
