On Friday, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, participated in the opening of the two extraordinary summits of the African Union (AU) on industrialization and free trade.

“Industrialization of Africa: Renewing Commitments to Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization and Economic Diversification” is the subject of the AU Summit on Industrialization and Economic Diversification.

The purpose of the AU Extraordinary Summits is to demonstrate Africa’s will and reaffirmed commitment to industrialisation as one of the key strategic pillars for accomplishing the continent’s economic growth and development objectives, as outlined in Agenda 2063 and Agenda 2030.

At the conclusion of the summit, a statement will be released, which is anticipated to reaffirm the high level political resolve of African leaders and their commitment to accelerating the industrialization of Africa in tandem with advancements in the implementation of the continental free trade area.

During the 12th Extraordinary Summit of African Heads of State and Government in Niamey in July 2019, the African Continental Free Trade Area was formally founded. Three years later, the Treaty had received 44 ratifications in addition to 54 signatures.

Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, had a series of talks on the sidelines of the sixth European Union-African Union conference in Brussels on Thursday.

Bourita, who is leading the Moroccan delegation to the summit, met with António Vitorino, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and conducted meetings with Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Foreign Minister.

Bourita also met with Karl Nehammer, the Austrian Chancellor.

The EU-AU Summit is a new chance for Morocco to reaffirm its political commitment at the highest level, which is in accordance with the Royal Vision for a wealthy, liberated Africa capable of taking control of its destiny, through a high-level presence led by HM King Mohammed VI.

In addition to Morocco’s active participation in all segments (intergovernmental, private sector, NGOs) organized as a prelude to the summit, Morocco’s co-chairmanship of the round table on Education, Culture, Vocational Training, and Migration and Mobility, which will take place on Friday, is a mark of recognition and renewed confidence in the Kingdom’s position, thanks to the Royal leadership, with its African brothers and European friends and allies.
