Pro-separatist “Polisario” social media pages and accounts as well as a Mauritanian media outlet spread fake news yesterday Saturday about missile attacks on Guerguerat crossing causing traffic blockade.

Right after the spread of the fake news, different truck drivers took the chance to film the situation in Guerguerat and post the videos on social media websites. The videos show the safe and normal flow of traffic and civilians through the crossing without any attacks or casualties of the fake attacks claimed by Separatist “Polisario” front.

According to sources in Guerguerat crossing, Separatist “Polisario” front “launched missiles twice which landed far away from the crossing on deserted land”. The same sources added that Moroccan Authorities “cut off lights in Guerguerat crossing for about 15 minutes after hearing the explosion of missiles as well as asked Mauritanian authorities to scrutinize every vehicle coming from Mauritania to Morocco”.

On his part, a Moroccan official in Rabat has expressed in a call to France Press Agency that “attacks have been launched near Guerguerat crossing, but they didn’t affect roads, and traffic flow stayed intact”

The same source added that the attack “is part of a series of continuous intimidation for the last three months” adding that “it is part of creating a media propaganda about the existence of war in Sahara”; however, “the situation is normal” there.
