Today, we witness the inauguration of this Consulate General in Dakhla; thus, being the 8th consulate in the city of Dakhla part of His Majesty King of Morocco Mohammed VI policy of affirming the Moroccan Sahara.

He added that when they started a year ago, they had an estimation of 10 consulates on the horizon, hopefully now Morocco is looking at 20 consulates. 18 Consulates have been inaugurated and 2 others to be inaugurated soon.

In addition to the US recognition of the Moroccan Sahara, an Embassy of the US is to see light in Dakhla city.

Dakhla has become a symbol of diplomacy and a center of consulates and embassies. It is also a bridge between north Africa and South sub-Saharan Africa. This is thanks to its geographical location and the opportunities it offers as well as the development potentials it holds.

There are other consulates on the horizon on the context of affirming the Moroccan Sahara.

On his part, Ambassador of Haiti in Canada, Wilbert Artes thanked the Moroccan government and people for their heart whelming welcome. He added that they have been here in Morocco for approximately 8 days during which they have tackled different aspects of cooperation between Morocco and Haiti. He expressed how glad he is to be there today to attend the inauguration of the consulate general of Haiti in Dakhla. He considers it an opportunity to bring closer not only the two peoples of Morocco and Haiti but also bring together the collectiveness of Haiti and Morocco. He views this gesture as crucial for Haiti as it reflects their determination to defend the Moroccan territorial integrity.

This decision, then, makes Haiti the first non-Arab and non-African country to open a consulate in Moroccan Sahara. The move conveys Haiti’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and its recent intervention to restore peace in Guerguerat.

The consulate general of the Caribbean country comes after 16 other countries had opened consulates in either Laayoune or Dakhla. And with the future opening of Jordan’s and Haiti’s consulates, the two southern provinces will be host to 18 consulates including those of UAE, Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, to name a few.
