Morocco and Israel signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on military cooperation during an official visit by a senior Israeli military delegation, the Israeli army’s spokesperson Avichay Adraee tweeted on Friday.

According to Adraee, senior Israeli military officials met in Rabat with Moroccan military head Belkhir El-Farouk and decided to form a joint military commission to sign a joint action plan.

“The officials discussed the historical and cultural connection between the countries and mutual interests in the Middle East, and expressed their desire to promote extensive military cooperation,” Adraee posted.

Cooperation on military drills, intelligence, and military training is part of the MoU.

Morocco and Israel, along with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, and Sudan, have decided to re-establish diplomatic ties in December 2020.

Israeli officials, including Defense Minister Benny Gantz, inked an agreement in Rabat in November that paved the way for today’s declaration and allowed for intelligence cooperation, arms sales, and joint military training.

The Moroccan Front for Palestine Support and Against Normalization issued a statement condemning normalization and signing agreements with the “Zionist entity,” emphasizing that “this is against the will of the Moroccans and their strategic interests.”
