Shinozuka explained, in a statement, that “at the beginning of the pandemic, experts feared a catastrophe would occur on the African continent, but the reality is that the virus was contained, especially in Morocco thanks to the efforts made by His Majesty King Mohammed VI; the great monarch who took the initiative and enlightened the way.”

Shinozuka noted that His Majesty the King’s interest was also focused on Africa through the humanitarian aid provided by Morocco to about twenty African countries, describing the “gesture of solidarity” as admirable and appreciated, especially when “all these aircraft bearing a green star (Royal Air Maroc aircraft) are seen in the news bulletins of TV channels, landing in the four destinations of the African continent, including its southernmost.”

Regarding the vaccination campaign in Morocco, the Japanese diplomat noted the continuing personal commitment of His Majesty the King, “who presented the model through His Majesty receiving the first vaccination dose against Covid-19 and giving his instructions for the vaccination to be free of charge,” adding that the campaign is going very well thanks to the logistics provided and the measures taken.

He also stressed that all these indications, which give cause for optimism, show that “Morocco is on its way to achieving herd immunity in the near future.”

Finally, Shinozuka expressed his aspiration to increase the pace of cooperation between Japan and the Kingdom of Morocco, especially with the signing of two important agreements in January 2020 related to the protection and encouragement of investment and avoidance of double taxation.
