Antonio Guterres, appointed The Moroccan Karima El Korri to the post of Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Singapore, as announced by his spokesman in New York yesterday Wednesday.</span></p>
<p>“El Korri has more than 20 years of international development expertise inside the United Nations and other organizations,” the same source said in a statement.</p>
<p>El Korri recently chaired the 2030 Unit of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), which was in charge of the population and development portfolio and participated in the Commission’s work on issues such as international migration, demographic change, and youth empowerment.</p>
<p>Karima El Korri has previously worked for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as a Regional Governance Adviser and Project Coordinator.</p>
<p>El Korri was a professor at the University of AL Akhawayn in Ifran before joining the worldwide organization, according to the same source.</p>
<p>She worked for a study and analysis center in Morocco, “where she fostered collaboration with the government, civil society, the corporate sector, universities, youth, and foreign organizations dealing with development challenges in the country,” according to her resume.</p>
<p>El Korri has a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from Columbia University’s Teachers College and a bachelor’s degree in English from Mohammed V University in Rabat.</p>
