Morocco was elected today, March 17th, in Addis Ababa, as the rapporteur of the new bureau of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Conference, which is chaired by Equatorial Guinea.

The composition of the new bureau was announced by the Kingdom’s ambassador to Ethiopia, and Permanent Representative of Morocco to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Mohamed Arrouchi, who presided over the opening session of the Bureau of the Experts Preparatory Committee for the 53rd session of the UNECA and the 2021 session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

The new bureau is made up of Equatorial Guinea (Chair), Madagascar (First Vice President), Zambia (Second Vice President), Sierra Leone (Third Vice President) and Morocco (Rapporteur).

It should be noted that the Kingdom of Morocco has headed the office of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development since its election during the March 2018 Conference held in Marrakech.

The work of the 53rd session of the UNECA and the 2021 session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development was launched earlier today, Wednesday, under the slogan “Africa’s sustainable industrialization and diversification in the digital era in the context of Covid-19”, and will continue by video conference until next Tuesday.

This year’s theme includes “African countries’ need to achieve rapid economic growth thanks to industrialization and diversification while respecting the environment while benefiting from digitalization”.

The intensification of digitization in Africa will stimulate transformation, which will help Africa to achieve sustainable industrialization and diversification in light of a global digital economy that will soon exceed 11.5 billion dollars, ”according to the UNECA.
