The UK’s National Security Agency, which named Oppong as one of the 13 most wanted fugitives from justice, said he was arrested as he entered Morocco last September from Spain on false documents.

According to British Essex Police, Oppong (42) killed his grandfather Robert Powell, with eight bullets from a 9mm pistol, while driving in a speeding car in the Water Lane area of East London in the early hours of June 13, 2020.

Nana Oppong remains in custody in Morocco pending the completion of extradition proceedings to the United Kingdom.

Oppong and his grandfather are believed to belong to rival criminal factions, and in addition to being on the NSA’s most wanted campaign, he has been the subject of an Interpol red notice for a global manhunt.

Steve Reynolds, regional director of the British National Security Agency in Spain, said: “Oppong’s arrest came after an ongoing search campaign and thanks to the vigilance of our Moroccan partners and the support of Interpol.”

He also added: “This is another excellent result which shows once again that British law enforcement is not giving up on finding those who are seeking justice in the UK. Together with our British and international colleagues, we will continue to track down fugitives”
