Thus, in accordance with the High Royal Instructions aimed at accelerating this Program and updating its consistency, a significant additional investment has been granted, bringing its overall budget to 143 billion dirhams. In this context, the following measures have been taken:

– The programming of new dams and the updating of the costs of about twenty dams planned, thus allowing to increase the storage capacity of 6.6 billion m3 of fresh water;

– Accelerating non-conventional water mobilization projects, through the programming of seawater desalination plants and the increase of treated wastewater reuse capacities;

– Strengthening the supply of drinking water to the rural world, by extending coverage to more douars and strengthening the logistical and human resources mobilized.

In addition, and in view of the climatic and hydric situation which has had a negative impact on the agricultural campaign and the availability of pastures this year, His Majesty the King, may God assist Him, has given His High Instructions to the government to activate, as in the previous year, the emergency measures of the Program to fight against the effects of drought.

Finally, the Sovereign urged the concerned departments and organizations to double their vigilance in this vital field and to show efficiency in the realization of the programmed projects according to the established schedule.

This working meeting is a component of the Sovereign’s ongoing oversight of the Kingdom’s strategic goals for the large-scale development of renewable energy, including the target of raising the proportion of these sources to more than 52% of the country’s power mix by 2030.

Before His Majesty the King, a report on the development of the renewable energy initiative was made. This initiative, which is the outcome of the Sovereign’s long-range vision, has allowed Morocco to demonstrate its regional and international leadership in this significant area of the energy transition.

In order to hasten the development of renewable energies, particularly solar and wind energy, His Majesty the King, may God help Him, has issued His High Directives. In order to increase its energy independence, lower energy prices, and position itself in the decarbonized economy in the next decades, Morocco needs speed up the deployment of renewable energy sources.

In order to increase Morocco’s competitive edge and draw in more local and international investment, this involves accelerating the implementation of projects that are currently in the planning stages.

In this regard, His Majesty the King has asked that the three solar energy projects in Noor Midelt be finished more quickly.Additionally, the Kingdom is benefiting from the increased competitiveness of renewable energy, notably in the areas of seawater desalination and the developing industry of green hydrogen and its applications.

The Sovereign has given His High Instructions to develop an operational and incentive “Morocco Offer” as soon as possible, covering the entire value chain of the green hydrogen sector in Morocco, in order to elevate Morocco into the group of nations with high potential in this sector of the future and to respond to the numerous projects led by investors and world leaders. Along with the institutional and regulatory framework, it should also incorporate the essential infrastructure plan.

Mr. Fouad Ali El Himma, advisor to HM the King, Mr. Abdelouafi Laftit, minister of the interior, Ms. Nadia Fettah, minister of the economy and finance, Ms. Leila Benali, minister of energy transition and sustainable development, and Mr. Abderrahim El Hafidi, director general of the national office of electricity and drinking water, were all present at this working meeting.
