A Moroccan official condemned the violence that targeted the Jenin refugee camp in the Palestinian territories and the resulting loss of life and property.

The Moroccan official said in a statement given to Morocco Telegraph, “that the continuation of these unacceptable practices would increase the climate of congestion and tension and hinder any efforts to revive the political path and implement the two-state solution”.

An Israeli operation in the Palestinian territories killed 10 people, including nine in the camp, in what observers say is the largest such operation since the Al-Aqsa Intifada in 2000.

For its part, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation confirmed that “security forces carried out an operation inside the Jenin refugee camp, after receiving intelligence about the Islamic Jihad organization’s intention to carry out a major attack.”

On Friday, the United States recognized Morocco’s assistance to the Palestinian people and advancement of the two-state solution and Middle Eastern peace, under the guidance of King Mohammed VI, chairman of the Al-Quds Committee.

“Naturally, Morocco and the Palestinians have a remarkable relationship. We appreciate Morocco’s role in supporting the two-state solution and helping the Palestinian people, and King Mohammed VI is the chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, a body that is a part of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation “claimed Ned Price, spokesman for the US State Department.

Price referred to the Kingdom as a “leader” in reference to the restoration of ties between Morocco and Israel and noted that these ties have produced “real benefits” and “new opportunities for peace and prosperity.”

During a press conference at the Foreign Press Center in Washington, he continued, “We will continue to engage with Israel and other countries in the region and beyond to try to widen this circle of opportunities for normalization, and we will look for other opportunities to strengthen cooperation between these countries and between Israel and its neighbors”.

In responses to a question regarding the Negev Forum, the US diplomatic spokesman recalled that the Forum’s participants had established a number of working groups with a focus on six important areas: regional security, clean energy, food and water security, health, tourism and education, and coexistence.

According to him, these working groups “seek to advance coordination initiatives among the founding members of the forum to foster what it is all about: regional integration, cooperation, and development for the benefit of the peoples of the region, including, of course, initiatives that could strengthen the Palestinian economy and improve the quality of life of the Palestinian people.”

Price highlighted the importance of working to find a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by saying, “The Negev forum process is about building bridges and creating opportunities.”
