Addis Ababa – The Executive Council of the AU has endorsed, during its 42nd session held on February 15-16 in Addis Ababa in prelude to the Union’s Summit, the Moroccan candidacies in progress to the international system.
In light of this, the Council decided to support Morocco’s proposal for election to the International Maritime Organization’s Council for the years 2024–2025 during the elections that will take place in conjunction with the 33rd session of the IMO General Assembly in London in December 2023.

In a similar vein, the Council decided to back Mohammed Charef’s election for re-election to the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families for the years 2024–2027. Elections for this position are set to take place in accordance with the 11th Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Migrant Workers, which will take place in New York in June 2023.
The AU Executive Council also noted Morocco’s intention to run in the June 2027 elections in New York for a seat on the UN Security Council for the years 2028–2029.

The AU Executive Council’s support for these candidacies demonstrates Morocco’s strong standing within the pan-African organization and the applicability of the Kingdom’s strategy to increase its influence in international organizations, which is guided by His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s High Vision.

Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, led the Moroccan delegation to the AU Executive Council.
