Al-Barkani expressed his satisfaction on this occasion with the distinguished historical ties uniting the two countries and peoples, reiterating the firm position of his country supporting the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and its sovereignty over all of its territory, the Lower House said in a statement. Al-Barkani was leading a sizable parliamentary delegation on an official visit to Morocco at the time.

Al-Barkani commended the Moroccan football team on its success at the World Cup 2022 in Qatar at this meeting, which was notable for the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen in Rabat, Ezzadin Saeed Al-Asbahi.

Additionally, he applauded Yemen’s stance in favor of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, stating that Morocco, led by the wise HM King Mohammed VI, supports the international legitimacy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of States.

“Our position is firm on the issue of the Sahara and its Morocccaness, just as the integrity of Yemen is inviolable and can not be compromised,” said al-Barkani in a statement to the press after a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami.

The Yemeni official, who was in the Kingdom leading a sizable legislative group, stated that the two nations “share a single issue, that of our territorial integrity, which is indivisible.”

In addition, he thanked Morocco’s King, Parliament, People, and Government for “their support to Yemen during its ordeal, which will remain inscribed in the history of the two peoples,” noting that the long-standing ties and close ties between the two nations will witness a remarkable development in the future.

Al-Barkani expressed the intention of the Yemeni House of Representatives to benefit from the knowledge and abilities of the Moroccan Parliament by saying that both parties will seek to elevate parliamentary relations to the greatest levels in international fora or at the level of joint consultation.

 Following his discussions with Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak on the sidelines of the UN Alliance of Civilizations’ 9th forum, Mr. Nasser Bourita reaffirms the Kingdom’s support for Yemen’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty. He also condemned any efforts made by the terrorist group known as the “Houthis” and those who support it to undermine the country’s stability and tranquility.

Also Nasser Bourita reaffirms that the resolution of the Yemeni crisis must be based on dialogue and international and Arab references, objects of mutual agreement, in respect of the legality in Yemen, represented by the Presidential Council and the government.

Morocco will always stand by Yemen, in accordance with the High Instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, he assured, highlighting the depth of bilateral relations and their deep-rooted human character, as well as their solid foundations, based on sincere brotherhood and continuous solidarity.

On Thursday, Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak welcomed the Kingdom’s political and humanitarian aid to Yemen.

In a joint statement issued after talks with Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, on the sidelines of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS Ministerial Meeting, the Yemeni official expressed his country’s appreciation and gratitude for Morocco’s positions in support of legality in Yemen and the country’s territorial integrity (May 11 in Marrakech).

He also praised His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s decision to donate one million dollars to international solidarity efforts during the March High-Level Pledging Event for the Humanitarian Situation in Yemen.

Bourita, for his part, underlined Morocco’s support for Rashad Al-Presidential Alimi’s Leadership Council, expressing the hope that the council will be able to perform its missions in the best possible conditions, maintaining Yemen’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the entire country.

He noted that the only way to end the conflict in Yemen is to reach a political settlement based on relevant international accords, such as Security Council Resolution No. 2216, the GCC Initiative and its implementation mechanisms, and the results of the national discussion.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to strengthen coordination and consultation on a range of bilateral and regional issues, reiterating their commitment to improve the legal framework by signing a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultation between the two countries.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, announced yesterday, March 1st, in Rabat, that His Majesty King Mohammed VI has ordered the provision of one million dollars for the benefit of Yemeni people, as a contribution from Morocco within international solidarity efforts to help the country.

In a speech during a high-level meeting on the annual Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen, Bourita stressed that the Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of the King, has always emphasized the need to give utmost importance to the humanitarian aspect, given its vital role for Yemeni civilians, and that the humanitarian crisis in this country can only be resolved by finding a comprehensive and sustainable political solution that preserves Yemen’s unity and sovereignty, according to well-known terms of reference, especially UN Security Council resolutions, namely Resolution 2216.

The minister also warned that the continuous absence of a political horizon for the crisis, as well as the imposition of a de-facto policy, will inevitably exacerbate the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which is currently witnessing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis classified as the largest in the world; about millions of displaced people, in addition to many others in need of food and medicine.

In this regard, Bourita considered that there is an urgent need to fight the specter of famine that is threatening 16 million Yemenis, expected to reach 22 million (equivalent to 75 percent of the population), in light of the escalating war, highlighting that this situation requires a broader international solidarity effort that is not limited to certain countries which have provided and are still providing generous aid that has prevented the worst from occurring.

Bourita renewed Morocco’s support for the efforts of UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, and his tireless efforts to reach an agreement on the joint declaration that includes a comprehensive ceasefire, and resuming of political consultations as soon as possible, in addition to humanitarian arrangements to alleviate the suffering of Yemeni people due to the conflict.

Moreover, the minister praised the role of the United Nations agencies in delivering humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people, and demanded that they be able to carry out their work without hindrance, noting that relief aid has enabled these agencies operating in Yemen, temporarily, to reduce the burden of famine and diseases that lie in wait for Yemenis.
