The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, received, on Friday in Rabat, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Guineans abroad, Ibrahima Khalil Kaba, carrying a message from President Alpha Conde to King Mohammed VI.

In a press conference that followed his talks with Bourita, Kaba highlighted the quality and durability of Moroccan-Guinean relations, which were further strengthened thanks to the mutual visits between the leaders of the two countries.

“We Guineans know that Morocco has always been present for us when we were going through difficult circumstances,” added Kaba, who chose Morocco to be the first country to visit after assuming the position of Guinean foreign minister, expressing his thanks to His Majesty the King for the support he provided to Guinea, especially during the period of Ebola virus outbreak, as Morocco was one of the few countries that kept its airlines open, which enabled the transport of medical and humanitarian aid to the country.

For his part, Bourita stressed that the Guinean official’s visit to Morocco reflects the special and exceptional character of the bilateral relations, highlighting that the royal visits to Guinea in 2014 and 2017, and the six visits of the Guinean president to Morocco, sent a new dynamic in these relations and gave them a strong impetus.

In this regard, Bourita expressed his thanks to the Guinean president for his permanent and effective support for the Moroccan Sahara, and his steadfast solidarity with the Kingdom in various regional and international bodies.

On the other hand, Bourita said that during this meeting, it was agreed to work to accelerate the implementation of a set of agreements that were signed between the hands of the leaders of the two countries, noting that “most of these agreements have already been implemented”.

The minister considered that the Guinean minister’s visit to Morocco would open the door to better coordination on various issues of common interest, in order to draw up a roadmap for the implementation of all these agreements.

The minister added that he also discussed with his Guinean counterpart an important aspect in bilateral relations, and it is related to the field of training, given that Morocco hosts more than 5,000 Guinean students, indicating that the number of training scholarships for Guinean students has been raised to 270 annually, including in this regard, those interested in training in the southern provinces of the Kingdom, as part of Guinea’s opening of a consulate in the city of Dakhla.

During this meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Guinean Diplomatic Training Center and the Moroccan Diplomatic Academy in order to enhance coordination between the two countries and develop competencies in the diplomatic field.

Bourita indicated that his discussions with his Guinean counterpart also concerned a number of regional and international issues, especially the situation in the Sahel and West Africa regions.
