The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, co-chaired the Joint Cooperation Commission’s 2nd session and “expressed their satisfaction with the level reached by bilateral cooperation, thanks to the High Guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency President Ilham Aliyev.”

The meeting provided the two nations with a chance to reaffirm their commitment to advancing cooperation in a range of areas. A sizable delegation from Azerbaijan, comprising multiple ministries and state organizations, attended.

This time, Morocco and Azerbaijan demonstrated their commitment to expanding and deepening their cooperative relations by signing four agreements and Memorandums of Understanding in a variety of industries.

The Morocco-Azerbaijan Business Forum, which is set to take place in Rabat on Tuesday, is expected to enhance the two nations’ already robust commercial ties, underscoring the significance of this relationship going forward.

At this Joint Commission meeting, there was also discussion about the potential for developing triangular cooperation to the advantage of African partner nations. This project is in keeping with HM King Mohammed VI’s High Guidelines, which put South-South cooperation and Africa at the center of the Kingdom’s foreign policy. Additionally, Azerbaijan is demonstrating an increasing desire to strengthen its ties with Africa, opening up advantageous prospects for the planned triangular activities.

The excellent relations that unite the Kingdom and the Republic of Azerbaijan were reflected in the friendly and understanding atmosphere in which discussions between the two parties took place during this Joint Commission session.

In December 1991, Morocco was one of the first nations to acknowledge Azerbaijan’s independence. The two nations formally established diplomatic relations the following year, setting the stage for a protracted and successful partnership.

Azerbaijan appointed its first ambassador who was based in Rabat in 2007. A comparable action was taken by Morocco in 2008 when it appointed its first ambassador to Baku. The two capitals’ resolve to deepening their political ties and bolstering their economic cooperation was cemented by these actions.

In terms of solidarity, mutual trust, reciprocal respect, and support for one another on matters of shared interest, Morocco and Azerbaijan’s relations have excelled over time.

Among other things, there is a genuine convergence of opinion regarding the inviolability of the idea of preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States, which is crucial for preserving peace and stability in their respective areas.

On the eve of the Morocco-Portugal High Level Meeting, which will take place in Lisbon on Friday, Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa emphasized his nation’s resolve.

Costa stressed the proximity between Rabat and Lisbon while describing Morocco as a steady and dependable partner.

He reiterated Portugal’s emphasis on Morocco’s reform initiatives “aimed at modernizing its economy and consolidating a modern society,” saying “Rabat is the closest capital to Lisbon.”

According to the Portuguese official, maintaining a safe and stable environment in the Mediterranean area is a shared goal of both Rabat and Lisbon.

Costa highlighted that the friendship treaty between Morocco and Portugal would be 30 years old in 2024. The historic Treaty of Peace of 1774 will be commemorated by the two nations during its 250th anniversary.

“It is a relationship with a rich past, but above all a very promising future, based on the friendship between our two governments and our two peoples and the existence of common projects for the future of the two countries,” he claimed.

The willingness of Costa’s nation to deepen collaboration with Morocco in a variety of fields, including as agriculture, renewable energy, as well as in the fields of education and science, was also stated.

Along with Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, these nations are working together economically and politically to win the right to host the 2030 World Cup.

In March, Morocco declared its participation in the joint proposal, highlighting the goal of the project to unite the continents of Africa, Europe, the northern and southern Mediterranean, as well as the African, Arab, and Euro-Mediterranean regions.

In March, King Mohammed VI stated of the bid, “It will also bring out the best in all of us – in effect, a combination of genius, creativity, experience, and means.”

The combined bid has received praise from both Spain and Portugal, who emphasized its importance as a statement of cohesion and togetherness to the entire globe.

In comments to Kenya’s East African newspaper that were published on Saturday in response to Kenyan President William Ruto’s decision to withdraw his country’s recognition of the so-called “Saharan Republic,” the Moroccan diplomat confirmed that Morocco, which was pleased with President Ruto’s economic model, could provide significant support in the area of food security because it is the world’s largest producer of fertilizers.

In this regard, the newspaper pointed out that the new President had promised to assure cheaper fertilizer, underlining the fact that his goal was to increase food production, guarantee long-term food security, as well as to quickly lower food prices.

Mr. Laassel mentioned the social housing sector as an area where the two nations could potentially work together fruitfully. Morocco could share its successful experience in this field, and the Kingdom could gain from Kenya’s “extensive experience in ICT, particularly in digitizing the banking sector,” he said.

The article stresses that Kenya might benefit significantly from the tea and coffee markets in Morocco, and Nairobi could get ideas from the 14 million tourists that Morocco receives each year.

The Journal reported that William Ruto, the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya, had decided to withdraw his nation’s recognition of the so-called “Saharawi Republic” upon taking office. It went on to say that the Kenyan President’s declaration was supported by Mr. Nasser Boura Boura, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Diplomacy, who had given him a message of congratulations from his Majesty.

The newspaper further stated that William Ruto had promised to assist the Kingdom of Morocco in locating a fair resolution to the Moroccan Sahara issue ever since he served as vice president in 2021.
