A key milestone in the two nations’ cooperation was reached with the recent adoption of a long-standing legal cooperation pact by the Brazilian Senate.

The agreement focuses on the reciprocal acceptance and enforcement of court rulings in a variety of contexts, including family, business, labor, and legal processes.

The agreement’s acceptance is a critical step toward its enactment after it has been examined by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The Republic’s President, however, has final approval authority, according to the news source Agência Senado.

The agreement guarantees that Brazilians living in Morocco would have equal access to the legal system as Moroccan nationals and legal organizations, according to the agency’s defined terms.

Moroccan citizens living in Brazil can say the same. Equal access to legal representation is provided to citizens of both countries, ensuring that their rights coincide with those of local residents.

The primary objective is to create a streamlined system for recognizing and upholding court judgments pertaining to civil, family, commercial, and labor legislation.

The Foreign Relations Commission ratified the deal earlier this month, ten years after it was first signed in September 2013.

It addresses crucial issues including access to justice, the protection of minors, and marital status and is intended to benefit Brazilian and Moroccan persons and legal companies.

The Legislative Decree Project’s rapporteur, Senator Fernando Dueire, had emphasized the agreement’s potential to deepen ties between the two countries’ judicial systems.

It establishes a system for recognizing and carrying out judicial decisions, making it the first bilateral legal cooperation agreement between Brazil and Morocco.

Dueire continued, “This agreement for Brazil and Morocco not only ensures the effectiveness and execution of judicial rulings but also acts as a cornerstone for establishing strong diplomatic relations and promoting collaborations across numerous sectors in the future.

This agreement is in line with similar agreements in place with nations including Lebanon, Spain, Italy, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Due to an unanticipated shortage of Moroccan cattle as a result of a severe drought and escalating livestock production costs, Morocco opted to import Brazilian cattle.

The calves’ peculiar appearance alarmed Moroccans, and many of them took to the internet to express worry about the calves’ meat’s quality. They claimed that while the price of red meat in Morocco now fluctuates between eight and ten dollars, the price of local cattle in Brazil is only two dollars per kilogram.

The Kingdom plans to import 20,000 heads of cows from several countries, including Brazil, in addition to Spain and France, according to Minister of Agriculture Mohamed Siddiqui. He emphasized that the shipment that entered Morocco is of excellent quality and that the Brazilian cows are among the best quality that can be found anywhere.

The Minister made it clear that the objectives of this program are to protect the national herd and lower the cost of red meat in the region.

The recent importation of cattle from Brazil, which has been in the news for just over a week, had Moroccans worried. Seeing the emancipated cattle only increased their concerns.

The cattle spotted on Rabat’s streets, however, are not going to be slaughtered for the city’s food supply.

The same sources claimed that the calves are privately owned by an investor who bought them for his own benefit.

Professional organizations had already stated that meat from Brazilian calves would not be available for purchase in the capital.

Concerning the existence of these calves in the Akkari slaughterhouse in Rabat despite the professionals’ boycott of Brazilian cattle, a Morocco Telegraph source responded, “Investors are given these slaughter spaces for slaughtering and cooling, and they pay expenses in exchange for benefiting from the facilities’ services.

There isn’t a single kilogram of Brazilian beef sold out of the Rabat slaughterhouses, the source said, adding that “as for the calves intended for people, they are ordinary meat that does not differ from the norm.”

The National Administration of Food Safety has reassured Moroccan customers, assuring them that the calves are healthy and adhere to current regulations, in order to allay citizens’ anxieties.

Mustapha Baitas, a minister delegate and government spokesman, also guaranteed that “the quality of Brazilian cattle meets with quality requirements and is subject to multiple levels of controls and examination.”

Appearing as a guest at a symposium organized by the MAP agency, the minister claimed that Morocco has so far imported roughly 20,000 cattle in an effort to lower meat prices, which have seen an unheard-of increase over the past few weeks.

He claimed that due to widespread public anxiety over Brazilian beef following a recent mad cow disease scare that Brazil reported to the World Health Organization, it sells for 65–67 dh in marketplaces.

Just a month ago, a case of the illness, known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy, was discovered on a tiny farm in the Amazonian state of Pará, prompting an embargo from many nations, including Brazil’s largest customer, China.

The largest beef producer in the world, Brazil, confirmed the case was found at a farm with 160 cattle, claiming the signs were those of an unusual incidence of the illness, which arises spontaneously in older cows and is less harmful and contagious.
Since then, China has restarted imports of Brazilian beef, although it has stated that it will quarantine and analyze the meat before allowing it to be sold in stores.

Before meat is delivered to markets, livestock will also undergo safety and quality inspections, according to Sadiki.

Claims that imported cows were infected with mad cow disease, he claimed, are “not true.”

The majority of Morocco’s imports have come from France and Spain, but because to the “exorbitant price of the herd in Europe,” he claimed, the government has turned to Brazil for imports because of the “cheap price.”

To boost the supply of cattle intended for slaughter from Europe and Latin America, Morocco eliminated customs duties and value-added tax.

The agreement, according to a website announcement from the Brazilian House of Representatives, covers a number of areas, including “the exchange of visits by delegations of the two countries, the exchange of superintendents and students of military educational institutions, as well as participation in theoretical and practical courses, cultural and sporting events, humanitarian assistance, and military training.”

The action reflects “the importance and great success of Moroccan diplomacy,” according to military expert Abd Rahman Makkaoui.

Since the Moroccan Foreign Minister’s visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil in June of last year, he told Hespress AR, “several files of partnership and cooperation have been opened between the largest country in Latin America and the Kingdom in many fields, both economic and cultural, not to mention the security defense field.”

The agreement between Brazil and Morocco for defense cooperation, according to the military expert, “opens the door to several cooperation projects between the Royal Moroccan Army and the Brazilian Army.”

He emphasizes with interest Brazil’s defense industries and notes that this is specifically with regard to the exchange of experiences and training in military academies.

Brazil is one of the nations with military industrial vehicles and cutting-edge technologies, according to Makkaoui.

Since Brazil and South Africa have business ties in the military sector, which could improve relations between Morocco and South Africa, Makkaoui argues that the success of Moroccan diplomacy with the biggest regional powers in Latin America will have an impact on both the level of Latin America and Africa.

The House Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee previously gave their approval to the text on December 1, 2021.

The two countries have signed seven agreements during Bourita’s visit that covered a range of topics, from defense to investment to double taxation on air and sea travel.

The decree, which ratifies the cooperation agreement between Brazil and Morocco in the field of defense and emphasizes research and development, logistical support, and the acquisition of goods and services, was adopted, according to representative Rubens Pereira Silva Jr.

In Brazilian football, a new cycle is starting now. The CBF gets underway with a matchup between our team and Morocco, a great opponent who advanced to the World Cup semifinals in Qatar last year, according to a statement from the CBF.

It will be a good test for the Brazilian men’s team, and undoubtedly a game that will intrigue Brazilian fans’ interest, according to CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues, who was quoted in the statement.

The Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier will host the first friendly game of 2023 for the Brazilian men’s national football team on March 25. According to the Brazilian Football Confederation, this will be the first time the national team will play on Moroccan soil.

The stadium in Tangier, which had its official opening in April 2011 and has a seating capacity of 65,000, was also briefly introduced by the federation. According to the same source, “it became known to Brazilians after hosting the Club World Cup,” in which Flamengo of Brazil took part.

The Seleço, which hasn’t yet hired a coach, will be under the direction of Ramon Menezes, who was in charge of the team that won the South American U-20 Championship last Sunday.

The Brazilian media reported that an agreement had been reached with Italian Carlo Ancelotti, who is currently at Real Madrid, to take over the Brazilian national team for three years after Tite’s departure following the team’s elimination in the quarterfinals in Qatar.

The CBF emphasizes that the upcoming FIFA friendlies will consist of just the game against Morocco.

Moroccan exports to the largest economy in South America registered a 95.5% increase compared to the same month of 2020.

During January of this year, the value of the Kingdom’s exports witnessed a significant increase, amounting to 118.3% (137.9% for inorganic chemical products, and more than 44.2% for fish and crustaceans).

The value of Moroccan exports to Brazil during the past year amounted to 1.2 billion dollars, making Brazil the third customer of the Kingdom, preceded by France and Spain.

On the other hand, trade exchange between Brazil and Arab countries increased by 17.3% in January 2021 compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 1.22 billion dollars. The trade balance recorded a surplus in favor of Brazil, amounting to 563.31 million dollars.

Arab countries maintained their third position in the list of major destinations for Brazilian exports with 891.85 million dollars, after China and the United States.

Despite the good performance of the Brazilian foreign trade sector in January, the trade surplus decreased by 9.2% compared to the same month of 2020, due to the increasing value of Arab countries’ exports to Brazil, which rose to 328.55 million dollars, an increase of 56.4% compared to January of last year.

The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce stated that cereals (wheat and barley) topped the list of the most important products exported to Arab countries, reaching a value of 26.78 million dollars.

Egypt topped the list of Arab countries importing Brazilian products, as the value of its imports increased by 77.6 % to reach 209.35 million dollars; in January, Egypt’s imports of Brazilian corn rose by 277.6% , while sugar imports increased by 543% (34.87 million dollars).

The ABCC expects an increase in trade exchanges, and a diversification of products in light of the accelerating pace of the anti Covid-19 vaccination process.
