Nouakchott – according to what the Mauritanian presidency reported, the former president of Mauritania, Sidi Mohammed Ould Sheikh Abdullah, died at the age of 82, on Sunday night – Monday, in Nouakchott.

The Mauritanian presidency declared a three-day national mourning following his death.

Sidi Mohammed Ould Sheikh Abdullah, who was born in 1938, took over the presidency of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania from April 19, 2007 to August 6, 2008.

The late also held several positions, including Minister of State in charge of economics, in Mukhtar Ould Daddah government (1971 – 1978). In 1986, he was appointed as Minister of Water and Energy, then Economy and Fishing in the time of former president Maaouiya Ould Sid’Ahmed Taya.

Saddening Death of French Consul Denis François 

Denis François, Consul of France in Tangier was found dead this Thursday, November 19 in his residence at the French consulate,

According to the first indications, it would have probably been a suicide, a thesis not yet confirmed by the French diplomatic authorities.

According to the French Embassy in Morocco, the late Denis François was found dead by his colleagues, an investigation was opened immediately after to sort out the causes of his death.

Nobody could have predicted such a saddening incident to happen especially looking at Danis’s good-hearted spirit after joining his post last October.

Denis François came after previous consul, Thierry Vallat, a consul who had brought the consulate closer to the inhabitants of the city.

“I will therefore be keen to continue the action accomplished over the past three years by Mr. Thierry VALLAT, my predecessor, to whom I pay tribute for his dedication and humanity. I wish him the best in his future duties.” Denis François

In his speech to Moroccans, late Denis said: “You can count on my entire commitment so that the action of the Consulate General can meet your expectations as closely as possible; in a spirit of listening and dialogue”
