According to MAP agency, an important meeting between a high-level Moroccan team and Emirati authorities took place today in Abu Dhabi, setting the basis for the upcoming COP 28, which the United Arab Emirates will host in November.

The Moroccan delegation, which included Sultan Al Jaber, the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, who was appointed President of the Conference of the Parties “COP 28,” Adnan Amin, CEO, Kenza Khalafi, Director of Partnerships at the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, and others, conducted a series of interviews with important individuals.

These two-day sessions gave participants a chance to discuss concrete ways to support the Emirati presidency of COP 28 while also laying the groundwork for Morocco’s major participation in the future summit.

The discussions included Morocco’s prior COP organization experience, focusing on the Kingdom’s activities and collaborations in the field of climate change mitigation.

Officials from the Emirati nation expressed their appreciation for Morocco’s active participation and unshakable dedication to regional and global efforts to tackle climate change, in line with the visionary leadership of King Mohammed VI.

His Majesty King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolence and compassion to the President of the State of the United Arab Emirates, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyane, following the death of his mother-in-law, Sheikha Maryam bint Abdullah bin Sulayem Al Falasi.

In this message, the Sovereign stated that he learned with deep sorrow and emotion of the death of Sheikha Maryam bint Abdullah bin Sulayem Al Falasi.

Following this difficult ordeal, HM the King expressed His deep condolences and sincere sympathy to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyane, and through him to the entire illustrious princely family and to the relatives of the deceased, imploring the Almighty to surround her with His holy mercy, welcome her into His vast paradise, and grant patience and comfort to the Emirati president.

Morocco Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita, accompanied by the UAE ambassador to Morocco Al Asri Said Ahmed Ed-Daheri, will supervise tomorrow, November 4^th, the official opening ceremony of a new UAE consulate in Laayoune, an informed source told Morocco Telegram.

According to the same source, the opening ceremony of the consulate in the city of Laayoune, the largest city in the Moroccan Sahara, will witness the virtual attendance and participation of the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed.

The opening decision, came after a phone call between King Mohammed VI and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in which the Moroccan Monarch welcomed the decision as “historic” according to a statement by the Royal Palace.

The UAE is not the first Arab country to open a consulate in the Moroccan Sahara, but this decision reflects its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity.

In less than one year, 15 countries, African and Arab, have opened consulates in the Sahara cities of Laayoune and Dakhla, showing their strong and firm support to Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
