At a press conference held in conjunction with his Omani counterpart, Badr Bin Hamad Bin Hamoud Al-Busaidi, at the conclusion of the sixth Morocco-Oman Joint Commission, Bourita stated that the Kingdom of Morocco reiterated its condemnation and rejection of the numerous Israeli aggressions against Jenin and the deaths and destruction they have resulted in.

The attacks on the Palestinian territories, according to Bourita, do not help to foster a climate in the area that is favorable to discussion and peace.

He went on to say that the current situation was seen by the Kingdom as “very critical,” endangering any prospects for Middle East peace and stoking the fires of extremism and violence.

Bourita emphasized the importance of the Palestinian cause and reaffirmed that without a fair and comprehensive resolution to this problem, there would never be peace in the Middle East.

He recalled the international agreement on a two-state solution to the Palestinian problem, with the state of Israel and the independent state of Palestine existing inside the lines of June 1967, with East Al-Quds serving as Palestine’s capital.

The Omani foreign minister emphasized that a comprehensive, just, and peaceful resolution to the Palestinian issue is necessary for the Middle East to experience long-term stability and growth.

In order to restore the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, he also attracted the attention of the international community and powerful states to the significance of obeying international law.

During the sixth Morocco-Oman Joint Commission meeting, which he co-chaired with his Omani counterpart Badr Bin Hamad Bin Hamoud Al-Busaidi, Bourita made note of the promising opportunities for bilateral cooperation in other fields, including energy, renewable energy, the digital economy, and agriculture. This is in keeping with the leaders of the two nations’ long-term outlooks and commitment to ensuring the realization of their respective visions of progress and sustainable development.

The General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises and the Omani Chamber of Commerce and Industry are urged to activate the Moroccan-Omani Business Council and promote joint investments in all sectors. Bourita expressed his satisfaction with the results obtained and emphasized the significance of involving all economic actors in the economic dynamism of both countries as well as utilizing all investment opportunities in both countries.

In support of a clear vision based on dialogue and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and respect for their territorial integrity, he also emphasized the accomplishments of the Sultanate of Oman under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Ha’tham Ben Tariq and the nation’s leading role in promoting regional and international peace and security.

In this regard, he pointed out that the two nations’ relationships with various partners are based on the same ideas and values.

The Minister also congratulated the Sultanate of Oman on its assumption of the rotating presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which is linked to Morocco by a strategic partnership and is regarded as one of the tributaries of cooperation between Morocco and the sister countries of the Gulf, expressing his conviction that the Sultanate of Oman’s presidency of the current session will contribute to the enrichment of joint action and the strengthening of fruitful partnership relations with the Kingdom.

Today’s meeting has special significance, given that it coincides with the 28th anniversary of the creation of the Moroccan-Omani Joint Commission on June 27, 1995, as well as the second meeting in which the chairmanship of the Joint Commission was entrusted to the two Foreign Ministers following the Muscat session on January 6 and 7, 2019.

The goal of this session, according to Bourita, is to raise cooperation to the level of the two Heads of State’s aspirations while also confirming the countries’ commitment to holding this commission on a regular basis as the main mechanism for consolidating bilateral cooperation in the various economic, cultural, technical, and social fields.

The Minister further stated that the Sultanate of Oman has consistently expressed positive positions of support on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, both bilaterally and within a multilateral framework, and that the Kingdom is pleased with the privileged level of relations between the two brotherly nations, marked by constant coordination and consultation and continued solidity.

In this regard, he recalled the message of thanks and gratitude sent by HM the King to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq bin Taimur, for his country’s firm support for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, expressed by the leaders of the Gulf countries at the 42nd session of the GCC Supreme Council, held in Riyadh.

The Minister also highlighted the positive development of bilateral relations in a number of areas, notably education, which is one of the sectors reflecting these distinguished relations, noting that the 2022-2023 academic year saw an increase to 156 in the number of Omani students enrolled in various specialties, while the number of graduates from Moroccan universities and institutes in recent years has reached 407, including 31 last year.

On this occasion, the Minister announced that the number of teaching seats devoted to the brotherly sultanate of Oman would be increased to 100, instead of the current 50.

According to people familiar with the matter who talked to Bloomberg, Saudi officials have recently spoken with Yemen’s presidential leadership council about a potential deal.

This comes after talks between the Saudi Arabian administration and the Iranian-supported Houthi organization. Today’s agreement-making meetings are taking place in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, with participants from Saudi Arabia and Oman.

The new peace plan calls for a six-month ceasefire to begin, followed by the reopening of main routes and the removal of all restrictions on aircraft and ports, and it might be unveiled within the next two weeks.

Peace negotiations between Yemeni groups would then start, including topics like disarmament, the creation of a cabinet and presidential council, and the unification of the national bank. A two-year transitional phase is also included in the plan.

The nine-year conflict, which has seen several Houthi drone and missile attacks against the nation, including a deadly hit on Saudi oil infrastructure in 2019, has been the focus of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to put a stop to it. A previous ceasefire, though it ended in October, has largely been maintained.

During this interview, FM Bourita and Al-Busaid outlined relations between the two brotherly countries in the various fields, which have been living at the rate of a positive dynamic since the 5th joint commission that the two ministers chaired in January 2019 in Muscat, indicates a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad.

The two parties also expressed their willingness to hold the next joint commission in Morocco, as soon as the health situation related to the new coronavirus pandemic improves, adds the same source. Several topical Arab and regional issues were addressed during these talks, on which a convergence of views emerged, notes the press release.

The release further noted that the two ministers underlined the vision shared by Morocco and the Sultanate of Oman on the preeminence of dialogue and understanding to resolve conflicts in the Arab region, so as to guarantee the security, stability and territorial integrity of countries far from any division or separatism.

On this occasion, FM Bourita welcomed the constant position of the Sultanate of Oman in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and the unity of its territories, and the measures taken by the Kingdom to defend its security and its sovereignty. He also highlighted the leading role that the Sultanate continues to play in the region, thanks to the enlightened leadership of Sultan Haitham Ben Tarek, as well as his efforts to bring together points of view on a number of regional and international issues.

For his part, Al-Busaid highly praised the wise policy of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and his pioneering role in the defense of Arab and Islamic issues, at their head the Palestinian cause and Al- Quds Acharif, as a land of coexistence between monotheistic religions, concludes the press release.
