Chaoui Belassal: Morocco-Spain Dispute Is Bilateral And We Do Not Want It Europeanized
This came in a statement made by Belassal to the press, on the sidelines of a meeting of the Morocco-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee, attended by Habib El Malki, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“The dispute between Morocco and Spain is bilateral and we do not want to give it a European dimension” said Monday, Chaoui Belassal, Chairman of the Morocco-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee.
This came in a statement made by Belassal to the press, on the sidelines of a meeting of the Morocco-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee, attended by Habib El Malki, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Belassal said that this meeting follows the inclusion of a European Parliament draft resolution on the “alleged employment of minors by the Moroccan authorities” in Ceuta’s migration crisis.
In this regard, he stressed that the meeting aims mainly to urge the European Parliament to amend this draft resolution.
Chairman of the Morocco-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee added that this project was included by two parties in the European Parliament at the behest of Spain.
“We want to make it clear to the European Parliament that Morocco fulfills its commitments, and shares with the European Union basic and strategic relations, which we want to continue, as well as valuing cooperation between the two sides to include a number of issues of common interest”, said Belassal.
In the same context, Belassal highlighted the great efforts made by Morocco with regard to all issues that fall within its relations with the European Union, including immigration, the fight against extremism, terrorism, money laundering and a number of other issues.
He expressed his hope that “the recommendations contained in the draft resolution will be amended by the European Parliament, thus preserving its relations with the Kingdom, as it is a key partner in the region and plays a very big role.”
It should be recalled that, yesterday, Habib El Malki expressed, in a statement to the press, his “astonishment” and “disappointment” after the inclusion of the European Parliament’s draft resolution regarding the unaccompanied Moroccan minors in Europe, stressing that this initiative is completely incompatible with the quality of the existing cooperation between the Moroccan Parliament and the European Parliament.
