Akhannouch receives a delegation from the American Congress

Aziz Akhannouch, the head of the government, met in Rabat on Friday, January 13, 2023, with a delegation of seven members of the US Congress who represented the Democratic and Republican parties.

The interactions provided a chance to highlight the exceptional ties that exist between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America. These ties are based on a strong, ambitious, and varied partnership as well as shared constants, histories, and values, all of which are perfectly consistent with King Mohammed VI’s enlightened vision.

During this meeting, the Head of Government stressed that the relations between the two countries are based on foundations including first of all the political and diplomatic component, through the strategic dialogue between the two countries and the coordination of their positions on many international issues, at a time when the Abraham Agreements to which Morocco has adhered constitute a diplomatic success that inaugurates a new era of peace and stability.

In this regard, Aziz Akhannouch pointed out that the free trade agreement has allowed trade to quadruple since it entered into force, rising from 1.5 to 5 billion dollars, and he highlighted that the Kingdom of Morocco can provide a link and a platform for American investment in Africa.

The Head of Government also praised the effectiveness of American initiatives supporting Morocco’s  growth in a number of crucial sectors, claiming that the two agreements carried out in Morocco by the Millennium Challenge Corporation serve as a successful example because of the favorable effects they have had on the local populations.

He also expressed his great satisfaction with the advancement of the second compact’s implementation, which expires on March 31, 2023. He noted a commitment rate that exceeded 93% and an achievement rate that was close to 78%.

The two parties expressed their shared desire to look into ways to keep their productive cooperation going as they reviewed cooperation agreements in the cultural sector, which help to foster human understanding between the United States of America and the Kingdom of Morocco and their peoples.
